Binge Drinking

WISN out of Milwaukee has run a two-part series on the drownings of young college men in LaCrosse.

I just thought I would share.

Part 1

Part 2

Questions I have:
1. Why only men? There are hundreds of women drinking there, too.
2. Why only out of town men? The locals spend an inordinate amount of time on Third Street, too.
3. And what about the ones that survive? Last spring, there was a young man that climbed out of the river and showed up at the hospital. He had no clue how he got there. Or how he got in the river. The police found his shoes, wallet and other stuff on the bank of the river. So it wasn't like he fell in the water. And it was way too cold to even think about swimming. Pretty strange.

Anyway, check out the videos.

Breaking the Law

So let me get this straight...Since I do not own a gun, I am breaking the law in Greenleaf, ID. And yes, I have been to Greenleaf, ID. It is little more than a bump in the road, but still the idea rankles.

Idaho town asks residents to own guns: "Ordinance 208, passed by the City Council on Tuesday, asks Greenleaf's 862 residents who do not object on religious or other grounds to keep a gun at home in case they are overrun by refugees from the Gulf Coast."

I am not a gun enthusiast by any means, but nor am I anti-gun either. I just don't want one in my house. Maybe if I lived alone, I would get one. But not with my daughter around. And definitely not with my son at home!! (I can already hear the police sirens!)

No one should be able to tell me that I HAVE TO HAVE A GUN if I don't want one. I do not have a religious reason to not have one; I just don't want one.

This law is wrong. Not because it has the word guns in it, but because it is telling me I HAVE TO do something that goes against everything I have ever said.

Bow Ow!

Dog Survives Bullet Wound in Jaw

I am not a dog lover by any means, but I hope they catch whoever did this and put a bullet in their jaw.

Why?

Police told the Old Farts they couldn't have strippers anymore. See story here.

Why? Why not just let the old boys have some fun? There is nothing wrong with stripping. It's not like they were killing someone and eating them for dinner.

Good grief! Don't the police have better things to do?

Wal-Mart Oops

Has anyone else seen this article about Wal-Mart and their blog?

I was an assistant manager for Wal-Mart for about 2-1/2 years. Although there are a lot of good things about Wal-Mart, there are also bad things. But mostly I found that the bad things and good things were in direct proportion to the good/bad managers.

I worked in one store that had an awesome manager. The employees were happy, the management was happy, thus the customer was happy.

I also worked in a store with an absent manager. I mean, he was never there. So the employees were unhappy, the customers were unhappy and the store itself looked like it had been overrun by a tornado; what a disaster!

Anyway, the whole point of this is...This article talks about a mistake made by one part of Wal-Mart, but just like any apple barrel, there are bound to be be bad apples.

Update: Here is more info the Oops.

Dream

Did you ever have a dream so real you woke up thinking that it was real?

I dreamed last night of Meg's father. I could even feel the touch of his skin on mine. I could smell him and taste him; it was soooo real.

I woke up thinking I was waking up next to him. It was quite a shock to roll over and see it wasn't him lying there.

I guess I still have feelings there. But then, usually when I dream about him, it is because he is in some kind of danger. He is a cop after all.

Guess I will just have to wait for him to contact me to make sure he is okay.

That dream was just too real. Way too real.

I want one!!!!

Pig E Bank - Electronic Bank with LCD

I can never keep track of how much money is in my piggy bank. This would be soooo cool!!!

Dara did it

In Australia, people are Blaming a Dead Guy and a Neighbor for Traffic Tickets. See, if you sign a sworn statement that you weren't driving the vehicle, you can get out of the ticket.

Reminds me of when I was growing up. My older sister is named Dara. She left for college when I was 9. After that, if anything happened we blamed Dara. It's kind of like that old Family Circus cartoon "Not Me". LOL!!

Once my brother stole a handful of frozen chocolate chips from the freezer. He carried them upstairs to his room to eat them. In true Hansel and Gretel fashion, he left a trail of chips leading to his room.

When confronted with the evidence, Kreg looked mom straight in the face and said,"Dara did it."

Amen

Elton John: Religion encourages hatred

I think he says it all.

Who woulda thunk it?

I love this story.

Who would have ever believed that George Bush, Sr. and Bill Clinton would get along so well? And it doesn't seem to be just for the cameras; these two men seem to really enjoy each other's company. If I had a chance, I would definitely like to see the two of them.

I have never met a president, although I have met many senators, representatives and governors.

My dad was a community leader when I was a kid. So we always were being invited to all sorts of functions. Since I was the only one left at home (brother and sisters long gone to school and such), my parents just pulled me along with them.

I got so I enjoyed going. I hadn't realized how much I enjoyed that until I started taking my politics course at college. I am really starting to enjoy politics.

That's almost scary.

Is it too early?

The people of Salem, Oregon have built and dedicated a memorial to the Afghan-Iraq war.

There seems to be some contention as to whether we should have a memorial to a war that isn't over yet. Either way, many veterans and their families showed up at the dedication.

Irregardless of whether this was an appropriate time for the memorial, the memorial itself looks wrong. The uniform being worn by the soldier in the memorial looks like something from Vietnam. Maybe it's just me. I would have thought they would have a soldier with bloused trousers and a flak helmet on.

Oh well, not my memorial, I guess. Just seems wrong.
