Grandma Emma

Penny over at My so called lesbian life has a request:
"100 cards for 100 years
On February 28th, my grandmother will celebrate her 100th birthday. She’s had a long and very active life--she’s raised three children, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren (so far), was married for almost 70 years, and still lives in her own house. And until a few years ago, she mentored Girl Scouts, kept extensive flower gardens, and was part of a quilting circle. And now, although it is getting harder for her to get around, she is still very active in her town’s Senior Citizen Center.

She’s been looking forward to this birthday for a long time. Last year when we threw her a 99th birthday party, she asked her friends what the big deal was–that 100 was the big event, not 99! One of the things she tells everyone is that on her day, the Today show will announce her birthday. When she started saying this about 10 years ago, we didn’t think much of it. However, we’ve since found out that NBC uses a lottery system to pick which names get read on the air.....so it may not be her. I’m afraid she will be crushed when her name isn’t announced, so I want to make her day special in another way. One of the things she loves is greeting cards. She reads every one she receives. It would be great if on her birthday she received 100 cards for her 100 years from 100 people! So I need your help. I’m collecting cards to give to her....so if you could, please take a minute and send one (either purchased or handmade) to the address below. Help make a wonderful woman’s birthday special....

Please send her birthday cards to:

Thanks for your help......and tell your friends about this card drive."

What next?

This officer did a good deed for a homeless woman. Even though he had arrested her for a misdemeanor warrant, he didn't want her to lose everything over her arrest. So he made sure the shopping cart carrying all of her belongings made it to a safe location.

Now, his superiors are saying he behaved "inappropriately" and may face reprimand.

That's just wrong. Plus, other officers are making fun of him for doing something humane.

I think he should be applauded for having a heart.

Another Marine

I just dropped Lucas off at the Recruiting Station. He is nervous, but excited.

As most of you know, he was supposed to leave about a month ago. Due to some Marine Corps requirements, he was not able to leave at that time.

He is traveling by van from LaCrosse to Milwaukee. He will spend the night in Milwaukee and fly out sometime tomorrow for San Diego.

His graduation date is set for April 13. Everyone who wishes to come to graduation is welcome to come. There is no limit on the number of friends and family that may attend graduation.

Thank you, everyone, for all your support for Lucas and Anthony.
